Despite strong reviews, supernatural series won't return
Prime Video has decided not to bring back Kevin Bacon's supernatural drama The Bondsman for a second season. The streaming service made this decision just over a month after releasing all eight half-hour episodes on April 3.
The show started strong, landing in Nielsen's Top 10 streaming rankings during its first week. It reached the #9 spot on the Originals chart with 563 million minutes viewed. But the initial excitement faded quickly - by week two, it had disappeared from the Nielsen charts.
While The Bondsman has maintained a position in Prime Video's own Top 10 list (currently at No. 5 in the U.S.) and earned positive reviews with an 83% Rotten Tomatoes average, it didn't generate enough social media buzz to earn a renewal.
The story followed Bacon as Hub Halloran, a bounty hunter who returns from the dead to capture demons who escaped from hell. Throughout the series, his character worked through family estrangement while seeking redemption and pursuing country music.
Grainger David created the series, with Erik Oleson serving as showrunner. Blumhouse Television, Marker 96, and CrimeThink Production Company produced the show, with Jason Blum and Bacon himself among the executive producers.
